Waste a post? Is there a certain amount of posts in our post bucket and once we use em up, our bucket is empty? If so, then you just wasted one saying don't waste one and I wasted one questioning this.

so to rephrase my question so that hopefully i get a useful answer (thanks to the couple of you who did actually answer the question) here goes. I owe 1900 on my car. I don't have a way to get that money and pay the car off right now. Borrowing it from someone isn't an option. I don't have a credit card with a high enough limit to cash advance and my credit sucks so I can't get a small personal loan to pay it off and get the title in my hands. The title sits with Ford Credit. Is it considered reasonable to ask someone for 50% upfront so that i can pay off the car and get the title? Some states give you 7 days to get the car registered and during that time you are legal if you attach plates from another registered vehicle and carry that vehicles registration with you. Would this clause allow someone to buy from me and legally drive the car until I get the title? I'm pretty sure it will. Lastly, if you were buying the vehicle, would you make full payment on the car and get it towed to your house and wait the week for the title to come from the person that you bought the car from or would you feel freaked out about doing that? On one hand, you have the car in your possession. On the other hand you need the title to be able to do anything with the car.

Do't swap the plates without doing a license plate transfer through the DMV. If you just put the plates on you are likely to be pulled over at gun point. I did the transfer through DMV, but the screwed up on the paper work and I was pulled over at gun point. They thought the car was stolen with stolen plates. If it wasn't for the temporary registration they gave me when I did the transfer I would have gone to jail for the day. Good luck selling ot though, I wouldn't buy a car without getting the title at the same time, too risky.

thanks for the info, incidentally, the attaching plates law is something that I'm sure varies state to state. I think MA just recently started to allow you to do that but i know that it used to definately be illegal. You can still get pulled over easily, for example, the inspection sticker would be invalid and it wouldn't match the month on the license plate either. But once getting pulled over and you explain to the cops, they should let it go
