Interesting read: "Some of the high end aftermarket fuel additive packages are very effective at removing deposits in the fuel injectors, intake ports, intake valves, combustion chambers, and exhaust valves. One of the best products available is the STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner. It can out perform Techron and other Techron-based products like Slick 50 and Gumout Regane with respect to intake valve and combustion chamber clean up." [Paragraph from Dave Stevens:] The prevailing wisdom seems to be that BG44K is an excellent, but very strong cleaner, really only appropriate for use on badly carboned/neglected engines, especially considering its cost. I mean, you don't need oven cleaner to do the dishes. You can try getting it through a friendly shop or auto supplier or you can try getting it from one of the auto e-tailers. Other top end/injector cleaners you may want to try are AMSOIL PI (through distributors like our Paul S), Chevron Techron (concentrate) and Redline SI. That's more or less the order of preference I've seen. Some of the house branded injector cleaners (like GM and Mazda) are reportedly as strong as BG44K. There are many other injector cleaners out there, some may be okay, especially for routine use. Just be sure to avoid the cheaper, older solvent based cleaners that might attack the fuel system and injector seals.
I'm not sure of the basis of the earlier statement. Or, for that matter, for the negative reputation of STP. Or, is that an STP product, different from what everyone is thinking. (Even FRAM makes some good filters, even if their bottom end product sucks.)

IMO the best way to clean infectors is by connecting a can of fuel injectors cleaner directly at the fuel rail, disconnect the fuel pump and run the car. Engine have to be hot when doing that.

Is the techron's fuel system cleaner the same fuel injector cleaner that everyone is talking about for cleaning the intake manifolds? I havent seen any bottle that says "Techron: fuel injector cleaner".

It's Chevron Techron, or something similar.

For having read everything on the brickboard FAQ and been on their forums (I used to own a Volvo 740Turbo wagon 341,000Kms), this is was I've understood. The very best system to clean injectors/fuel system is Snap On's Motorvac. In Montreal (and probably other parts of Canada), there's a system called Tera-Clean witch isn't nearly as good as a Motorvac, it should be about the equivalent to a really good bottled injector cleaner (though not BK44). For the bottled stuff, keep in mind that the rear wheel drive volvo owners are used to keeping their cars for years (700/900 series starts in 1984 till 1994), the best bottled stuff is BK44. It's much harder to find then the next best STP Complete Fuel system Cleaner. It can only be obtained from a distributor not from a parts store like Auto-Value, Napa or Autozone... The STP Complete Fuel System Cleaner is only available (or I've only been able to find it) in the US. It is much more efficient at cleaning the fuel system then other injector cleaners.

For years I've used Redline's SI-1 "Fuel Injector & Valve Cleaner." It's the only injector cleaner officially endorsed by a little-known German automaker -- BMW. When I had my injectors out last summer (for a complete intake/fuel system gasket rebuild project), the tips of the injectors were amazingly spotless. The gas mileage in my 96SE MTX remains at a steady 25MPG City and 31-34 MPG Highway (oddly, with 33-34 MPG occurring only when I have the A/C on). I bought a case of SI-1 three years ago and have never regretted it!
