Hi, I think I got a problem with my engine or something... When the car is turned on I can hear a thicking/thumping noise coming somewhere from the engine.. First I tought it was the alternator bellt, so I sprayed some stuff that makes the bellt silent.. but that didnt help.. Any ideas?? Could it be the VALVES? (I had the engine changed cuz my last one died cuz the VALVE broke and went and broke the cylinder. I also got a CEL, but autozone guy said that he cant check it because my car is year 1995 SORRY FOR THE LONG POST.

Does it go away after a few seconds, or does it last longer?
If it stops a few seconds after you start the car, its probably the timing belt hitting the cover before the tensioner gets oil pressure, and its not really a big deal.
Whoops, this is if you have a Zetec, you didnt mention which engine you have.

The Duratec V6 has a chain rattle for a second or two, 1995 models. The codes for a 1995 car can be read by a code reader, check autozone might sell it or sears, even. Non-OBDII, actron makes one, costs about 30 bucks. I am surprised Autozone can't read your codes..Low oil pressure can cause knock, so can a bad tensioner pulley.

The oil pressure light above the fuel gauge would flicker if the oil pressure is low. To measure it exactly, a gauge would have to be connected. The a/c compressor might make a bit of a ticking, if the a/c is on. If not that, maybe take it to a repair shop, avoid driving car if possible.
