I hope when you say "standard" you mean optional. you dont have to have it but its highly advisable for situations like this. Anm8, i seriously hope you have it. i was in an accident like this yearsssss ago and i didnt have it because i was an 18 year old kid who could barely afford liabilty insurance. If you do have it, then dont worry about. the insurance company will take care of it. theyll fix your car, pay your medical (if provided in your coverage) and MAybe go after the other guy. A car insurance adjuster told me its typically not worth their time/expense. In CA, if you get a ticket for no insurance, youre f*cked! i went to traffic court and there must have been 20 people in my seesion alone who got busted for this. people from all walks of life. they were gettin slammed with $2500 fines, each one of them. Kinda funny cuz they could have had insurance for less than that. Now they pay a huge fine and have to go get insurance, or at least are supposed since the court doesnt check up on them once they pay the fine. i was there on typical CHP multi violation ticket (exhaust, tint, etc..) AND no insurance. lucky for me, i just didnt have proof when i got pulled over. cleaned out my ride for a show and forgot to put it back. Never again! unfortunately, fake insurance cars are very popular here in LA (just like fake passports, driver's lic, etc..). I had a pimply faced white kid offer to sell me one at fabrication shop. he had a handful of pre-printed ones read to go. $150. NO thanks! doesnt help me if i wreck my own car, or someone elses.

The reason insurance in CA is so HIGH is not because of all of the uninsured drivers, its because of all of the sky-high PI suits that result from car accidents. someone's parked car gets hit and theyre ready to get an attorney.
i ought'a know, i live in sky-high car insurance capital of the world! when i was 18 i called my insurance rep with some cars i was thinkin of buying. i asked about a Mustang GT and was quoted $6500 and $4500 for a V6, a year! i had one 1 point ticket back then. Im now 28 with no points on my record, multi car discount, and teacher's professional discount and still pay A LOT for my csvt! it's worth it though. we recently looked into a convertible camaro V8, fugetaboutit!

Orland Park, huh? So what's better: Steak and Shake or White Castle? Does Carlton Fisk still show up to eat at Traverso's?

Carlton fisk.....is he still alive....

White castle rules!!! Never been to steak and shake...think its more east coast. I was kept from my sliders for 5 years while I was in California...which by the way was BLAAAAA!!!!

I did not even think about my mileage....crap....if it costs more to repair than its worth.....thats going to suck the big fat arse. Course, it would be good motivation to start my project "Operation Focus" as listed in my sig...except that whole unemployed thing kinda hinders that right now!

I had a big eye-opening experience a few months ago. I was pulled over because my license plates read that the driver (me) was under suspension (news to me). Turns out that a $15 parking ticket I thought I had paid online about a year previously had not gone through and because I forgot to change my address on my license when I moved, I wasn't getting the notifications. All my fault, I know, so theres no need to point it out. So I show up for court as driving under suspension is a mandatory court-date, can't pay. The judge pulls me up with like 5 other people for the same thing and tells us to come back in 2 weeks, but that if we didn't have our tickets paid that we'd face possible jail time and huge fines, etc. So I go across the hall and pay my various tickets and hitch rides with roommate, etc for the next couple weeks. Show up for court again, get pulled up to talk to the resident DOT person and show her that I had paid my tickets. She's freaking ecstatic. Says "Good for you!" and I move on to the prosecutor. The guy sees that I paid the tickets, and drops all the other charges that the cop that pulled me over for driving while under suspension gave me and turned the driving while suspended into a simple driving without a license for like $150 instead of the $1200+ they had racked up against me for random crap. Go up to the judge, she says "good for you" and "can you pay that ticket within 30 days?" (yes) and lets me go. So I walk across the hall again and pay the ticket.

At this point I'm home free, have nothing but that driving without a license on my record, and am thoroughly AMAZED at how many people actually DON'T pay their tickets and keep driving illegally and getting jail time and huge fines. Just paying off the small things saved me so much in the end I just can't believe other people don't do it. I was the only person that day that had paid within the 2 hour time I was in the court room (and it was all traffic stuff) and we're talking probably a hundred people going through. From being there that long I saw what kind of people the courts and the cops deal with every day that are nothing but deadbeat rednecks, and largely poor white trash.

During the time I was getting rides from people we stopped in at a bar near where I live and a guy we were playing pool with told us all about how he hates cops because they pulled him over 6 times in the same area for driving without insurance and while under suspension and how he owes a lot in fines now. I just wanted to shout at him "DUH! You idiot!"

The moral of the story: Most of the laws are there for a reason and if you just keep up on them when you break them, you save yourself a crapload of misery and money and the police and courts will actually probably treat you with respect and high regard if you do. Oh, and pay your friggin parking tickets.

Sorry to hear what happened, but what ever happened to "Never leave the scene of an accident"? Seriously, I've been involved in accidents all over, and the best course of action has always been to call the cops and make them come to the scene, that's their job. I made the mistake of going to the police station for an accident ONCE, and I will never do it again.

here, if you call 911 they tell you if there is no injury then call the police station. if you call the police station they tell you that if there is no injury and no "problems" then they dont need to come. i once got into an accient with a guy who refused to give me any info, drivers lic, insurance, nothing! and it was a rental truck to boot. the cops finally showed up cuz we were gettin kind of heated and made him give me his info. in this case though, the idiot deceptively presented false paperwork.
out here, when you call 911(police), they respond by order of priority (im sure they do this everywhere too). a basic traffic accident is a low priority, especially out here with out cop-to-civilian ratio.
IMHO I think he did the right thing. he tried to clear up the scene appropritely and amicably. unfortunately, he was involved with someone who had bad intentions. A police presence would not have changed this in anyway. he didnt leave the scene of an accident, the two parties exchanged info and then left. you have to go home at some point, dont you?

But here at my PD you have described about 0 of the officers.

Rethink your attitude towards people if you want to have fun in life. If you think this way about life your one sorry sob. You will never be able to have fun because someone is out to get you. I really feel bad for you man.
