Thanks for any and all info - I thought I'd pose this question to those a little closer to home before going to the bigger forum - and my apologies if I've missed the obvious ... but has anyone successfully installed heated mirrors on 98+ contique?

Did a search in general mods and got a lot of hits - but after reviewing a number of rather long threads it doesn't seem like anyone actually got the job done, or if they did they didn't post it.

Thanks again.

I'm not sure if anyone has made it happen yet but the priciple is simple. Find a full set uninstal the old replace with the new wiring them up to the defrost wiring. Ensure the proper amped fuse is in the circut and enjoy the bennifit us early Tour owners have. Even if they only seem to come in handy 3-4 days a year they are still nice to have.

Mark are all the necessary bits and pieces present on the newer cars? From what you are saying I have everything I need except the wiring. Is this correct?

You mean the heaters in place? No. I am under the impression. Procure donor mirrors and then swap over and wire up. I could be wrong but it seems to me that it was that simple when I looked at the Haynes manual a while back.

I did read in a post from last year something about having a 5-pin connector at the mirror indicates the harness at least is correct for heaters - the writer indicated he found it, but I swear, I read and re-read the whole thread and I couldn't figure out what year his car was.

I had a 96 Mystique from 96 through 98 (one of Ford's famous 2-year leases) and I loved the idea of standard heated mirrors - my clients at Ford tell me that they are working with the PDCs to have the "Canadian Winter Package" available on all Ford of Canada vehicles - traction control, heated seats, heated mirrors - makes a ton of sense to me.

I'll take a look at the connector in the mirror this weekend and let you know what I find.

BTW - I understand that the pre-98 mirror housing is different from the 98+, but the glass shape is the same - can anyone confirm that?

Thanks and cheers.

Only differences that I can remember is the possibilty of non p[ainted mirrors. Other then that I don't recall there being a difference. Granted I have never had 2 mirrors side by side.

Early tour owners have? Hey, have I missed something? HAHA I dont see anything like that on my 96... and I thought it had just about all the goodies. Where is it?

It was standard on my 96 Mystique and that was the GS model.

The heated mirrors are activated by the rear window defrost switch - the mirrors might be marked as heated (either the word "heated" or some wavy lines etched in the glass) or maybe not.

Turn on the rear defroster for a minute and then touch the mirror = if it's heated you'll know it.

I think 96 was the last year for it to be standard if they didn't already start decontenting it by then. My stripper Mystique and I mean stripper. ( no power nuttin ) Has them. The only way to be sure you have them is to turn on your defrost as it works in conjunction. wait a few minutes (doing this on a cooler day) and put your hand on the mirrow to see if it is warm at all. Also can tell if you drive through a mist or the mirrors are covered in mist or water and with them on the mirrors dry off.
