Is anyone here using the McIntosh car amps? I ask because one is for sale on ebay, and I love their home stuff...any opinions?

Dave loves them more than his own family!!! I think he traded two of his sisters for a McIntosh amp. wink

I've heard they're some of the best available. Unfortunately, my pockets are too shallow to find out for myself. frown frown

Just an FYI: McIntosh home audio equipment is exceptional. But their car audio equipment is actually designed and manufactured by, oh yes, Clarion. Clarion is in fact an investor in McIntosh and, I believe, distributes their home audio gear in Japan. Ergo, I wouldn't trust their car audio gear just because it's labeled McIntosh.

McIntosh is a good amp.
The Car amp sounds like any other Solid State amp.
Beside the warm sound of tube amps is nothing but disturtion. Still with McIntosh Ti dome tweeters the system will sound very harsh.

Their clip and compression system works better when you have a Mcintosh HU.

I have never hard their amps with the big transformers (look like 2 t*ts on top). But Mc thinks they are the best design and sound they have for the car.

When I met with McIntosh about running their product they told me they are OWNED by Clarion.
That's HOME and CAR. Mc amps are designed by Mc but the Mc HU are Clarions with Mc special features (round knobs, amp link). Mc Speakers were a special run for Mc. They gave the impressions that Clarion nor Mc designs or makes speakers sold with their name on them.

This is wrong. Clarion is McIntosh's parent company but does not get involved with the mfg or design of their amps.

oops...didn't notice that Anthony already answered that! Thanks!

I have an MC440M and I can honestly say it is the best amp I have owned. I have owned numerous amps from big mfg like RF, PPI, a/d/s/, PG, Orion, and the Mc stood out as the best of what I have run.

I won't say they are the best amps made, but it would be hard to convince me there is anything better. Then again, if I hear better, my Mc will be for sale. smile

They make tube amps only for home audio applications.
