I was wondering if one 13.5 or two ten inch w7's would sound better, also getting 900 watts rms?? I am thinking about upgrading to one of these. THanks

Sound better? or be louder? The 2 10's will be louder purely based on more surface area. Given the same amount of power that is. Given the appropriate box they should sound pretty much the same SQ-wise.

One thing you may consider is the Diamond TDX instead. Its less expensive, and to most people sounds better and has a similar look. There is a car audio shop in Iowa that has both brands and let people demo them side-by-side in a test car and most people choose the TDX over the W7 based entirely n sound. And most of these people came for the W7 and had never heard of Diamond Audio before.

I gotta agree, the w7 is just not as impressive as people say capability and hype wise. The only thing the w7 is good for is the "oooohh ahhhh" effect. The TDX is an excellent choice, as is the Image Dynamics IDMAX, Adire Audio Brahma, Resonant Engineering XXX/SX. Any of those would suit you perfectly, can be had with a warranty for the price of an online w7, and are a hell of a lot easier to power considering that every w7 I have seen was dual 1.5 ohm coils. It's hard trying to find an amp that will make enough power at 3 ohms. The only ones I know of are higher end (= lots of cash), JL's slash line, and the Phoenix Gold Xenon line. So, if you do go the route of the dub 7, good luck with all the money you are wasting.
Regards,
Smorganin

PS. The recone price of a w7 is rougly 2/3 the retail driver costs, so if you ever blow a cone, be looking at about 600 bucks with shipping. Just thought I would let you know.

Smorg,

The W7 may be the best car audio sub on the market. I agree that it is very expensive, and the performance advantage over something like a Brahma maybe inaudible and almost immeasurable, but it also costs a hell of a lot more money to build than a Brahma. Don't get me wrong, I would never choose one, but they absolutely phenominal subs and worthy of the hype they receive.

true they do cost more, but which is more linear, which has better track record, which has better customer service, etc. I would rather pay 450 for a sub that is has an inaudible advantage over a dub 7 if it meant that I had a better warranty and a lot cheaper for recones if I ever get too greedy with my amps' gains, ya know?

I shop I always buy from sells both Diamond and JL (as well as a lot more). I also know that if anything happens to either I can just take it back to them and they cover it. I was being stupid at a soundoff once in their parking lot and blew 4 MTX 8000 subs at the same time. They sent them in and got them reconed (which was actually 4 brand new ones) at no cost to me. They also custom built a ported box for me to demo the TDX in so I could decide if I wanted to buy some subs or not, because I would run them in a ported enclosure instead of a sealed.

but JL's warranty is what, 1 year? And with an investment of close to a k, you should get more than that. And people who have blown up their W7's have found that reconing them is almost as costly as a brand new one.....

I have a 2 year warrenty on my W3v2's, i dont see why a more expensive sub would have less of a warrenty?

The Adire's are I believe 3 year warranty's. And I got this straight from JL's website:

WARRANTY TERMS
(effective March 1, 2003)
These terms supercede all prior published warranty terms

JL Audio products are warrantied against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of Ninety (90) Days from the original date of purchase.

Warranty coverage is extended if the product is installed by an Authorized JL Audio Dealer OR the system design and installation integrity are evaluated and approved by an Authorized JL Audio Dealer (in writing on the original sales receipt).

The available warranty coverage extension varies by product category, as follows:
Subwoofer Drivers: One (1) Year

So how do you figure that you got a 2 year warranty? Which one sounds better now?
