Well last I checked a real car was one that drove, so I guess that qualifies our tours for sure. Although if you want you can give me your maxima Oh yeah the guy wants to spend very little money, so that means buying another car is out of the question. It was funny though

Looked into buying an SVT straight up, and the cost was... a little high ($5995 with 88k miles) and insurance is still about $500 a month if I get it, so I am thinking about waiting, and buying one at auction before I transfer to my next college next year. That leaves me with $150 still, so I am really looking into buying a CTA intake, but when I searched for info, all I found was poo about heat problems. Will it hurt my car if I install the CTA intake without adding a heat shield of some sort? Or is it just poor performance? And if the heat shield is required, could I get some pointers? I am really new to this whole "car modification" thing, and any tips would help. (Search Nazi's back off, I searched a bum-load and didn't find the info I ask of now.)

it would be helpful if i knew more about the condition of your car. how many miles? 5spd or auto ? what type of octane fuel do you use 87 ? 89 ? 93 ? . the best thing to do is whats called BACK TO STOCK. thats the starting point before you do any mods to your car.
if your car isn't up to the factory settings then adding mods will not help you.
an air intake is usally good for 2-4 hp on a stock car. the idea is to have a hole bunch of mods so that they benifit from each other. one mod will not do it alone. except turbo, supercharger, nitrous.
yes heatshield play a big role in the sound aspect and function of an air intake the cooler the air the better the car will perform.
engines are like air pumps if you will follow me here. the more effective a job you make of the engine able to suck air in and blow it out the better it will perform. ---- suck, squish, bang, blow.--------

'96 Contour GL, 113k miles, 87 octane, Auto, all stock, and yeah. I understand how an intake works; I am not completely ignorant on the subject =). Good explanation though. I am looking to make it the best car around the area, because all of these rednecks are driving jacked up trucks and crappy Camaros =). I was thinking of working from the front to the back (Intake, Exhaust, and then do all the little things) because that is what I can afford right now. Thanks!

you can get one, its not optimal because of the filter in the engine bay but you will see some gaims vs the stock intake.

Care to explain? I assume that you are talking a CAI over the CTA's open filter in the bay, but I would have to do a custom CAI, wouldn't I? And couldn't I just add a heat-shield to emulate the basic idea of the CAI (outside the bay to get cooler air, right?)... So many questions... Sorry, I tried searching for over two hours and didn't find what I needed, so I am stuck asking =/

Correct. The are true cold air intake kits; but they require you to cut a 3" hole and move the battery/fuse box around, etc. So no, there is no true CAI set up that bolts right in. The CTA set up is not a cold air intake. It's commonly referred to as a HAI. I had one on my old Zetec and saw some gains (pics in sig lol). Zetec Ninja is probably getting the most gains out of his CTA because he has a CAI extesnion that moved the filter out of the engine bay and under neath the bumper. A heat sheild would help you emulate the CAI effect, yes. BUT it still can't provide as cool of air as the CAI does. It is still immersed in the hot air of the engine bay; and it is still drawing hot air from inside the engine bay. Really and truly, the best set up (temperature wise) would be something similar to SleeperZ's and Zetec Ninja's; then wrapped in heat reflective exhaust wrap. Basically, if SleeperZ and Zetec Ninja had a baby...there you go.
...and shut up Hector, we know you've got your CTA ghettoed on a JRSC.
