Am I mistaken?

What you're doing by fusing it is to protect the car, and secondly the audio system. If you have a long power run and something should happen to it where it is able to ground out against the chassis or whatnot there is a high probability of fire or seriously damaging your vehicle.

If you're going to have a battery in front AND in back, you will want to fuse both sides. One under the hood, and one in the trunk. As I said before, its to prevent fire and vehicle damage.

In order to determine what gauge wiring you need, we need to know the amp you will be using. AKA how much RMS wattage it puts out, or better yet, what its fuses are. That tells you the absolute max that the amp can pull, and combined with the length of the run, determine the appropriate wire size.

As the battery will be in the trunk (if I'm reading you right) it will be a very short run to the amp and need not be large at all. However, the run from the back to the front you will probably want to be larger.

To save yourself some money, the fuse block and distribustion block in the back can be combined into the same unit. Stinger sells such as beast as I'm sure other companies do as well.

As far as blowing the fuse when starting, make sure the fuse is as big as or bigger than the amount the amp + starting would pull through the wire. The amp will protect itself with its own fuses, the others on the power wire are for the car and as soon as it grounds out will exceed the rating and pop it anyway.

from experience you cant fuse a power line. you have to get a relay that will do the same thing.
