Last weekend I was playing some cd-r's in my Blau Florida. It suddenly began skipping ahead a few seconds, playing a few seconds, and skipping ahead again. Then the music slowed down to a stop (like putting your finger on an lp in the old days) and the player ejected the disc and the display said "Error" The ejected cd-r was very hot. Turning the radio off and on again made no difference. It did this several more times and I figured the player was toast. I stopped for gas, and when I started the car up again the player was fine, and has remained so. A techie at work said that current radio/cd players have a cpu controlling everything, and that mine probably "crashed" because it didn't like cd-r's, and that shutting off and restarting the car rebooted the cpu and made things right again. Is he out of his mind (not out of the question considering the individual), and/or do I have a problem with the Blau?

It's possible, but i think that the heat would be the more likely culprit. When you stopped your car, it had an opportunity to cool down.

I had a Blau Florida in my last car that had a similar problem. It wouldn't skip, but it would overheat to the point where you couldn't touch the display without burning yourself. If its still under warranty, (hopefully someplace local or Crutchfield) I'd consider exchanging it. Also, the Crutchfield tech told me that some contour wiring diagrams had some wires reversed, and that that could be the cause if it was hooked up wrong. Whether the incorrect diagram is true or not, I don't know. But I did have the +/- reversed on one speaker when I spoke with the tech, which I fixed before putting the new HU in. OK I'm starting to ramble....lemme stop.

Thanks for the input. I did purchase it from Crutchfield, but about a year and a half ago, so it's out of warranty. It hadn't acted up before, and it's behaving itself at the moment, so we'll see....

Ask Crutchfield anyway, they offer lifetime (whose I wonder) Tech support. Maybe they can offer some insight. laugh
