I was talking to my brother about getting some reverse gauges for my contour a short while back. And he said back when he had his jetta (he was a member of VW vortex) they were able to print off custom gauge overlays out of a conventional Laser or Inkjet printer and fasten them into the gauge clusters that way... I dont doubt my brother at all, but is this possible to work for a contour?

Ask him how they worked at night and if the light showed through them propperly. Ask him if they put the paper over the old guages or took the old guages off. Ask him some more details about it. ...and if this worked in a Jetta, it should probably work in a 'tour.

he told me there was a special paper required. But hes at school right now, so I will have to wait to ask him more about it. Im interested to know how it works because I would love to make my own set of custom gauges with photoshop and such.

Yeah, that's good and all, but what paper did you use? How does the light show through it at night?

If you are using an ink jet printer, then you can use plain Transparency Film. Such as this.

If you will be using a laser printer, then you will have to use a Transparency Film that is for a laser printer. If not, it will melt.

If you did not want to buy a whole pack of this stuff, then you could do the Photoshop work at home and save it to a disk. Then take it up to a print shop or even a Staples, Office Max or Office Depot and ask that the image on the disk be printed to a transparency. Done!

I know that auiotour used some different stuff to do his, I think. He had to get if from a print shop and had them print it for him. Maybe he can chime in and correct me if need be.
