Now you're talkin! But I think that info is still available through a search. I've heard it discussed before. General consensus is that a 01-03 is better, and I think it requires less modifications or something?

Personally, I bought a brand new 04 shortblock from Bill Jenkins for a little over $500 and bolted it to a set of 2.5L SVT heads.

Full 01+ 3L is the best route by far.

Getting it from an 03+ Escape/Tribute is better yet.

Making a "hybrid" still saddles you with the oil drainage problems.
Why go through the effort to build an engine and retain a known problem??? Especially when the oval port heads are superior as well.

Forget about the new 3.0 shortblock! I ordered mine from Bill BEFORE the end of last month, and sure enough, Ford had made a mistake on the price of the shortblock. It is no longer $532, but as of 10/1 the price went to $900+ (from Bill). Even though I placed the order before the price increase, Bill just told me today that Ford is trying to charge him the new price (which would be the $900 price to me) Supposedly the new list price is $1200+. Bill said he's trying to work with Ford to get me the block for the price I ordered it for, an I pray he does, but for some reason it all sounds a bit fishy to me! Needless to say. I don't care if Ford made a mistake or not- if I don't get the shortblock I ordered for the price I ordered it for I'll NEVER buy Ford again- I mean, I shouldn't anyway since a well treated engine with only 45K on it should not be biting the dust, but this would be the last straw! Too bad, those new stangs look really good.

Getting a full 3.0L from a tribute/escape would mean the escape heads too. Would that even work in a contour with a standard hood??

Why do you think the 3L is larger than a 2.5L?

Please do even a small amount of research.

The 3L DURATEC block and heads are the same dimensions and the 2.5L DURATEC block and heads. That's they ENTIRE reason why this swap exists.

Matter of fact it originally started as a "hybrid" swap using 2.5L heads on a 3L engine because someone wanted the higher compression ratio.

With any type of swap some modification is required. It has ALL been rehashed in great detail!
