very good choice for a winter car, but the lift kit makes it look akward... my contour has to get driven all year I dont like to drive her in the snow, but I guess I have to to get back and forth between school and work. Its amaizing how my contour handled better in the snow then my mom's Grand prix, that was with my 14 inch Hankook tires. Im interested to see how the BFG's perform.

looks good. excellent choice to have some off road fun in. looks like you miiiight be able to squeeze in some bigger tires...if not, ah well. gotta love the lift kits!
ps get a snorkel, those bad boys can drive in DEEP water!

go to http://4wheelparts.com/4wp/index.asp and sign up for their free montly newsletter. they are very Jeep friendly and always have some amazing pics and articles in the magazine. i can't wait to buy my wife a new ride so i can do THAT to her 4x4 trooper. i have a chevy 4x4 truck but its not as fun for rocky stuff as the short wheelbase suvs.

W/ 4.5" of lift, you could clear larger tires. Aftermarket wheels with an offset to get them to stick out a bit to widen your stance would help out too, the XJ's are a bit top heavy. May want to look into a slip yoke conversion to help out driveline angles. Sway bar disconnects help off road since you have a solid front axel.

There is a ton of stuff you can do, it's just a matter of what you plan on using that nice XJ for Next to YJ & TJ's, the XJ's have one of the largest aftermarkets

The only advice I can give you with the Cherokee is don't try to use the rear doors if you're a bigger guy...

Dad bought a Chief Cherokee 2 door back when they first came out. Still drives it today. Sadly it's the crummy V6 with the corn cans under the hood. I always tell himhe should put in a 4.0L. He insists the 350 from his old truck will do just fine as a replacement if the Jeep doesn't rust apart first

Have fun with it, they are pretty much unstuckable off road, just as long as you use your head

Thanks for the helpful comments so far!! The castle is a building at Northen Illinois University. The Jeep already has the slip yoke conversion. I have not gotten to offraod very much yet but I am looking foward to some more trails in the future!!!
