Well, I just signed the counter offer for a settled on purchase price of 459,000 dollars!!!

What does almost 1/2 a million dollars get for you here in San Diego you ask? A 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom 1304 sq ft single story on 7000 sq ft of land Actually, things are slowing down in this market, similar houses were going for 480-500 back in May when everyone was trying to buy "before the rates go up"

Oh well, at least the crappy jobs outlook today drove the intrest rates back down ! I should end up with a low 5 to high 4% rate on my first.

Congratulations! And, welcome to serious debt. Location impact is so vast. That house here would go for $235,000 give or take.

Yeah, our 3 bedroom 1200 sq-ft on .25 acres in Rochester, NY only went for 96,000 4 years ago, and I just saw it went for like 108,000 over the summer. I guess nobody wants to live in "Crotchfester" NY

Damn. In San Antonio you'd get that for about 130k. Cost of living is so much less here than almost anywhere in the states

Holy chit!

I hope you are making 4x what you were making in CT!

Same house in Charlotte would go for $150-$180k depending on area.

$500k is just ridiculous.

I wish, I'm making about 2x what I'd make back in NY (Xerox hq is in CT, but I never lived there).

SD hit the most unaffordable community in CA because the salary to house prices don't jibe. We may not be as expensive as San Jose or San Francisco, but only like 10-12% of the local population can afford a house.

I stay because in the winter I can drive 30 minutes to take the kids sledding up in the mountains, come home and Mt. Bike in 70 degree weather and then get a nice 80+ degree winter day with the Santa Ana's. Plus there are stil alot of teleco and defense jobs here, so there is no great fear over suddenly ending up jobless.

Holy sh....

Last year I bought a similar house, same land space, garage included, for less than 140k - and that's (ahem) CANADIAN money!

Ok, with the house came 4-feet high snowbanks, -40 degrees temperature, and a real need for winter tires..

Damn you in the south! :-)

My winter tires are Ecsta KH-11s, and there is no salt on the roads ever

i.e. it doesn't snow here ever, so 3 season tires go all year (we take the lameo-van for family trips).

Maybe 2 or 3 times a year I'll have to scrape a little frost of the windshield.
