Mrs. T want's a digital music thingy. I have found a few I like: Any comments are appreciated. I-Pod mini is too small. Cost not an issue. Needs to have belt hook, preferrably arm band(for working out). TIA, Mark

I just bought an iPod (20gig) a week ago and so far I've been happy with it. I had similiar choices when I was choosing between players and I ended up going with the iPod. But if you are going to be using it for working out and want an armband I would suggest the iPod mini since its the only one with an armband and also is I think more shock resistance than the normal iPod. Is the iPod mini too small in physical size or amount of storage? The Creative Zen is way too bulky compared to the iPod, it just feels huge in your hand so that is probably out of the picture.

agreed. The Creatives Jukebox dominates over the sissy, new age IPOD. Do you want boots or flipflops? Of course the flipflops come with emo framed glasses and black nail polish.
And as for the working out goes...I hope that doesnt include running because harddrive MP3 players do not enjoy jogging.

Exactly, in fact the lack of a hard drive is about the only justification I can see for buying a mini MP3 player instead of an old CD walkman that plays MP3's.
FWIW I still haven't come up with a good reason to upgrade my old 256MB NomadII to a newer I-Pod-type unit.

I have a Sony Network Walkman. It is not the one that stores music on a hard drive, it records everything on a Minidisc. One minidisc can hold 6 hours of music at CD Quality with special compression software that comes with the player. The player also writes the minidisc, so no seperate recorder is needed. You can write to the minidisc over and over too. It has shock protection, (I've never had mine skip) and you can buy a sports model with an armband. It is also pretty small, 2.5"w 3" h 1"d, and one AA battery lasts for 50 hours of play. Prices range from $100-$150.

However the software that comes with the minidisk players (at least the older one I have) sucks. It requires you to "Check out" your music onto the the disk and before you delete the music you have to "Check in" your music because you can only have so many copies of the music checked out at one time.

That is why I put the music on with real player. (sometimes) For the music I always keep on there, I used the check-out/in software. Real supports the minidisc, and while it can't do the super compressed format, you don't have to check-out/in, you can just delete it.
