I own a 1998 Contour SE V6 and love it even though it has begun to cost me a mint for repairs as I previously posted. I am leaving tomorrow on a 1400 mile round trip and codes relating to problems with both pre-cats have sprung up. I researched the forum first. I am going to dump the B12 in the fuel as one fellow said he did and hope for the best on this trip. I am really on pins and needles here. I am interested in gutting the pre-cats and the electronics to fool the computer. I researched the faqs to no avail. I know I probably missed it but could someone please help. Also, what is the chance I will get away with making this trip without a major repair on the road?? I know, probably a stupid question but I am really worried here. Thanks and I am gratful for this forum and it's members....Steve

What is the mileage of your vehicle. The two major concerns are the water pump and your clogged precats. Personally I would not drive the vehicle with just the precats clogged. There is a member selling gutted precats in the classifieds for $60 iirc. IMO, it is worth it. MILs can be found on DemonSVT's website.

Thanks for the info, any and all is sincerely appreciated. My Contour has 120,000 miles on it. Incidently, I am sure I know when and how the pre-cats were clogged. My mechanic cleaned out the EGR ports on the car by scraping, brushing and spraying cleaner in the ports. Their comment was, "Man, the black smoke really rolled when we started her up and let her run." I have little doubt as to this being the end. One more question for someone, my mechanic has already stated that they will most likely have to jack the engine up to get to one of the manifolds. True or false?? Again, Thanks.....Steve

If your cats are going I'd recommen not to use any fuel cleaner since you just sending more stuff to the cats.
