Is there was anything out there set up to run in line with the + terminal of a capacitor, or is there a smart capactor that would determine if draw voltage was 0 in a no power situation, and move into charge mode when connected to a charged power source? I am very nervous about setting up a cap in my car, because I have a tendency to get electrocuted... (yeah, I've got severe attention defecit disorder--it's amazing I've gotten this far in life) It also sounds like a pain in the a$$ to charge after every trip to the shop, severe battery drain condition, or disconnection. Feedback, comments?

Lick your forarm then touch both pos and neg terminals!
I wouldn't say im affraid of caps i work with them in a day basis. A tad bit of rational thinging goes along way when around them. I was at a Install School type thing and watched a guy get knocked out by a bank of 6 1farads In series( trying to remeber ya sounds right).
Just be careful. Also any best buy or other car audio install bay should have the appropriate risistor charging apperatious

Wear gloves if you are that worried about it..... What you can do if you do not want to use the charge resistor (it is there mainly so you do not caused a big weld mark on your gold plated terminal) Connect a scrap of cable to the cap. Take your main power wire and touch the two together. Now the smarter thing is to connect the charge resistor between the two, but since you don not like the taste of voltage this will suffice. Now you will see some serious spark, sunglasses may be required.....lol. When the two cables no longer spark the cap is charged. AGAIN, THIS IS NOT the BEST SOLUTION, but what the hell, it sure is fun

12 volt is fun. until you get an old batter that runs at 12v still and put a metal rod on both terms

Lets put it this way... I've been shocked(flew across the room) by a coil in an old school 36" tv. Also, numerous home wiring experiences. I'm the idiot son who listens to his dad when he says, "Here, just connect this wire there." Ba$tard... I just get nervous... I'm all read up on proper cap safety now thanks.

An easy way to charge them up is with a good ol' battery charger. That is the way I do mine everytime. I have a digital display and I also have to be carefull because my charger doesn't stop at 12V, it would keep going and going and going and going.......
