Ok ive been wanting more output out of my sub setup. both in loudness and frequency respose. i have an mtx 500d runing 2ohm to a pair of jl audio 12w3 according mtx the amps puts out 690 watts rms. ive asked around to see if i could run a bigger amp but most people say 300 watts is sufficient for w3. right now they are in a sealed enclose w/ 1.25 ft63 each. according to jls web site their reccomendation for max db system consists of a 1.5 ft^3 enclosure ported with a 4" dia by 16' port. there "purist" enclosure consitsts of a 1.5 ft^3 sealed encloseure. im considering building the ported box and making a cap to seal the port if desired. This will yeild a 1.6 ft^3 sealed enclosure. this gives a slightly higher output at low frequency with less than 1/2 db loss overall. id like any imput regarding reccomendations for new components (id like to only replace the subs/box or the amp) also any imput on the dual purpose enclosure. or suggestions on something different(i listen to all types of music) thanks for reading.

It's definitely a good idea. I have recommended (mainly in HT use) on a number of occassions and people have generally liked the results.

I have run JL subs in db drag racing for a few years and my suggestion is ti use slot ports they sound much better with that brand however if you have the bucks buy the new w7 that was just released 700 bucks or the new kicker L7 that is much improved but as far as amps I would recomend the concept 2500d or the lanzar vibe 1200d concept is 6-800bucks the lanzar is 3-400 bucks either amp with either sub will blow your mind in a tour let me know you budget laugh
