But I get treated like Im 12 if I want to rent a car. I imagine there are a few people here that have rental experince. Is there any possibility of finding a sensible car rental place at my location (traveling to Florida)? Or is there anyway that I can have someone sign for me or something so I can rent? I think its pretty ridiculous that I cant rent a car at 19, a bad driving record for my age group, well why cant you look at my insurance record, or just take the risk inherint in this type of business. also : MAD:

Its really hard. When I had to do it I talked to a friend who had a friend who ran one. He did it for me but increased my up front deposit. The only other way I did it was through the company I worked for. They booked it for me so it didn't matter about my age.

Rental agency have to follow guidelines set up by each individual state. Some states have the age limit set at 18 while some thers have it set at 21. My suggestions would to have a parent or someone of legal age rent the vehicle for you. -Mark

It doesn't get much better when you turn 21 either...until you're 25, they still ding you for an extra $25 a day .

I went to Maui on my honeymoon, was 21, and they almost didn't let me rent a car once I was there. Had to be 25. Charged me an extra $25/day because I was under 25! those b|tches!

I'm not sure what Budget's cutoff is, but I'm 24 and was able to rent from them up in Toronto. I've heard their age minimum is 21, so you might still be out of luck with them.

See the problem with these options is that Im flying there alone. I really really dont want to ride around in cabs for three days; as much as I enjoy my cab driver sipping on her screwdriver and chatting on the CB the whole time.
And thanks for all the replies; its nice to see other people hate rental companies just as much as I do.

lmao!
most places in MI will rent to you if you're 18-25, they just charge you extra. enterprise only charges $10 more per day.

think about it from a business perspective... I'm sure 100% of kids your age would take care of the rental car . Most kids your age (I'm guilty of this too) will be the snot out of the thing. People over 25 are supposed to be more mature. So it cuts losses for them...
