I know what the code is, but I don't know what to look for. I already checked my pcv valve. Its brand new and not leaking. Where would I find the vapor canister I read about? I'd just like to know where to look to see if anythings wrong.

Would this code cause an occasionally irratic idle? I'm still having my idle trouble, where the idle will fall below what it should, but then catch itself. It almost stalls but doesn't. Just dimms all of my lights ect.

I am stumped about my idle problem. I've replaced a ton of parts, reset my pcm, and it always comes back after a certain length of driving. Works great until that point. Only thing I haven't done yet is replace my fuel filter which i will be doing very shortly.

Ok, i did some research. I read in my haynes manual that a bad EVAP canister or EVAP canister purge valve would cause a bad idle and poor driveablitly. This is what I am experiencing. I cannot find these though. The haynes manual says you have to remove the coil pack on the v6 models and its attached to the firewall behind that. I do not see it anywhere. Anyone know where it is located exactly so I can check it? I have a 98 SVT if you need that info.

I thought that was the black box type unit that is mounted to the bottom of the fuel tank ... but I might be wrong

no, i checked the haynes again. Says its under the hood right behind the engine. Still can't find it though. I have a good feeling that this is the problem I've been having for a while now, with my idle and all. If anyone can help me out with this, it would be a great help. Thanks.

are you looking for this part?

It's on the firewall right behind the coil pack, just to the left. Your PCV valve runs a hose to it.

That's it in the picture, with the cap (like the EGR solenoid). The canister purge valve, now called a vapor management valve, has a green cap that screws onto the evap service port. Check to make sure the green cap is on tight, or you will throw a gross leak code like P0455.

The box under the tank in back is the purge canister itself. The vent for that canister is a little hole behind the fuel door hinge, next to the gas cap. Make sure a spider hasn't built a nest in that vent hole, or that will mess up the evap system, too. Don't laugh; it happens a lot.
