Yes, it only happens in neutral, and when the clutch pedal is not pressed. If you think someone is going to call you out about your car sounding like a POS, press down on the clutch pedal and say "I don't know what you're talking about". Seems to shut people up pretty quick.

Well, we can close this thread and close the issue for me- I ordered the SPEC 1 with SPEC flywheel.
Also ordered my oilpan and new shift forks online from Bill, and will be ordering the shortblock once I can get hold of him on the phone. Sacramento Cylinder Head quoted me $500 for a rebuilt pair of heads which seems a bit high but don't have time to find some at a junkyard. I'm sure they'll do me good on getting some good ones. Question on the heads which I'll post in a new thread ....

That damn chatter.. its kinda embarassing, so I always sat at lights with my foot on the clutch. Kinda annoying, it was nice before to be able to REST my leg at a stoplight.

Just spoke with my brother and seems he had the same think with a Centerforce in a '66 Lemans he had. According to him, there were some weights on the pressure plate (I got the picture they were spaced around the diaphram) that slid with an increase in RPM's, designed such that the increase in RPM's created an increase in pressure plate holding force.

really?
Man, my engine and exhaust are loud enough to muffle that idle chatter. . .and then you have to factor in other people listening for your clutch chatter. . .I'm just saying, you can rest your foot again, NO one is listening. . .now it's diff it annoys you THAT much that you want to wear your PP . . .

I'm more embarrassed by showing everyone my ugly rear reflector (98+) after they line up next to me.

Ever since I fixed up the 98 SVT the clutch has chattered. Its all stock clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. Didn't do anything to it. The Cougar has never had any chattering issue and I put in a SVT clutch, pressure plate, and a fidanza flywheel.
I'm still not sure why you guys don't like the back of the 98+ contours. I think the 97-'s look like ass compared to the new ones. I guess to each his own.

I don't think the <98 looks like ass, but I prefer my 98+ ass much better :-) Originally posted by Blackcoog:
