hello, i have vibration in the steering at 50mph and up-went in and had tires checked, balanced, etc. no help-was told it was the inner tie rod and not dangerous to drive on, but needed fixing. went to another place, they said they'd fix it for $170 and i'd need another $50 for an alignment--does this sound reasonable? also they said it IS dangerous and the wheel could fall off--true? we're s'pose to get another hurricane this weekend and i don't really want to spend 2 hours waiting to get it fixed at this time. Thanks!!

For the price you mention it is very cheap! I just had this done and they quoted me 300 dollars for labor. You have to drop the subframe and remove the rack.

They may not know what is involved....I'd ask them if they have ever replaced the rack on a Contour before..

My tires wobbled at 5 mph and up. I drove it for 2 weeks before I had it repaired.....did not like waiting that long..... it is dangerous.....

The inner tie rod end can be removed without removing the rack - but I wouldn't want the customer around to see me do it. They get a little nervous whe you break out the big tools.
