The original post is in troubleshooting and it was suggested that I post one here also. Thanks in advance!

I recently bought a 1995 Contour and the transmission went out about a month after the purchase. A local garage wants 2500 to do the job which I am not willing to pay. There is a neighbor who has a wrecked 97 Contour. What years of this car can we exchange parts?

Thanks

Need some more information.

What engines?

You'll at least have to swap a sensor or 2 because of OBD-I vs OBD-II.

2000 SVT #674 13.47 @ 102 - All Motor! It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

It is not easy to drop the engine and tranny from the bottom. That procedure was written for shops with a lift. You have to drop the U-frame and rack and are asking for trouble. Take it through the top with an engine lift, youll thank me later.

You should have the Valve Body on the 97 updated with the shift kit or the Bypass and regulator valves replaced with Sonax designed valves. Also like I said, replace or TC.

Hey Jeff,

I went out and bought one of those Chilton books just to get an idea what I will be up against. The removal seems quite involved with most of the steps moving stuff out of the way so that the engine and tranny can be lowered down. It seems pretty straight forward with the exception of the sub frame alignment. Am I correct in assuming that taking it from the top eliminates this step? Yes you guessed it, I am a novice at this stuff. Maybe I should just part it out? LOL!!!

Yes, taking it out from the top avoids any sub frame work. You can search and find a lot of posts on stripped sub frame bolts. Also, you have to disconnect the power steering lines at the rack and there have been tails of cross threaded lines. I recommend that you pull the engine and tranny out as a unit. You can take the axles out via the wheel bearings or, disco the lower ball joint tie rod and swing the wheel out.
