And good answers you will get by searching.

Now honestly, what car do you know of that DOESN'T have problems? You are most likely hearing things from people that DON'T own a Contour. You'll have your normal wear and tear items like any car, but the Contours are obviously known for the water pump going out around 60k miles, depending if you have the revised pump or not. Other than that, the automatic tranny is nothing spectacular, so you'll want the MTX-75.

These cars have alot of issues and are high maintenance. if you aren't willing to work on it yourself be prepared to shell out big money to get it fixed.

Everybody has car problems sometimes. Sometimes it's from lack of maintainence, sometimes from thrashing the car, sometimes it's just plain bad luck. Reading online forums is like sitting around in the doctor's waiting room, you're going to hear about sick cars. That goes for cars, trucks, Fords, Chevys, whatever.

Personally I have 130,000 miles on my 98 Contour and my water pump is the only thing I've replaced. Drives & handles like a dream. So I like mine!
