Does anyone know the best way to replace the rear oil seal? I can't really get my seal puller in to pull the seal. Is the part that the flywheel bolts into actually the crank shaft, or does that piece come out so that I can get to the seal?

Drill two small holes between crank and block in middle of seal lip. Use small pointed tool to carefully pull seal out.

From a question I asked a while back I used a 1/4 inch nut driver and light hammer blows and kept tapping around and around the edge untill it was fully seated.

Scott, Thanks for the advise and the link. I tried to do a search, but I obviously didn't get that one to come up.

Yeah - without being able to search all the forums it's easy to miss things that aren't necesarrliy where you'd expect them to be. I figured the 3.0 guys would have more expereince with this than anyone elses so I asked in there.

you might also try a bead of lock tite. I replaced mine when i did my clutch. and i smeared oil around the outside to ease instalation what a mistake that was. the seal started to back out a few months later and eventual completly backed out to the point it almost fell off into the bell housing. So i replaced it and used some locktite and i havent had a problem since.

I did the same thing on my rebuild. However, I was shocked at how easy it slipped into place. Once it was in place I wipped off the excess grease and applied loctite to the outer edge of the seal to keep it in place. So far everything is fine.

I just did this a week or so ago, and I found out the easiest way to do it is to take your old oil seal and put it on the new oil seal (face to face) and easly tap it in place with a rubber mallet working in a circular motion
