i did a search and couldn't find crap on this issue. i'm really just looking for a confirmation on my fears on this one.
about two weeks ago my stereo, keyless entry and dash clock went out on my contour. i figured it was the fuse under the dash and because these items are things i can live without i let it go. however this weekend i decided to replace the fuse, went under the dash and found that 1 7.5 fuse was blown. pulled it and reinserted a new fuse. before i had a chance to insert the fuse all the way the fuse blew. did this twice and i decided to come inside and do a search.
does this mean that i have an electrical short somewhere in the car? is this a common occourance and my search skills just suck ass?
thanks...

I think you should take the car to someone.

I'm going to assume you have an aftermarket radio. I'd start by checking the connections on that. Defiently sounds like a short.

Sometimes fuses can just blow, especially if it is raining about 3 inches an hour and wires get wet.

actually it's a stock radio. the only things which have been performed on this car have to do with the intake, exhaust, springs and dampers. no electronic upgrades at all...
i imagined that a mechanic would be the only one who could help me... that sucks.

You might get lucky and only get charged 30$ for a simple ground problem? It's just better than pulling your hair out testing wire after wire with no results.

Determine what the fuse # is, i.e., F23 or F34 etc., and do a SEARCH on that. If the search term is too short for the search engine, pad it with trailing "*" characters to meet the minimum search term length.

good call on that man... thanks a bunch. did a search on fuse f34 and found a post saying that the dome light had melted and caused the problem i am encountering because it was left on too long. went out, disconnected the dome light. instant stereo, plug the dome light back in and open a door. instant fuse blowage.

Hmmm.. so is the doom light busted?
Have you tried using a larger gauge fuse?

I dont usually (OK never) flame anyone, but dont ever tell anyone to use a larger fuse!! He defiantly has a short and using a larger fuse will melt things overload the wire capacity and possible cause a fire!!

If you dont know about electronics and electricity leave the answers to the people that do.

jeff

If you suspect the dome light simple remove it and pull the connectors out. Replace the fuse and try the radio.

LOL... I understand. Was just asking is all. You never know.. sometimes people try to put back in a weaker fuse and it pops. But yeah... just forget I said that part.
