Does anyone know what the wires going to the automatic transmission from the engine wire harness on a 95 Mystique V6 correspond to?

If that doesn't make sense maybe why I am asking will. I wrecked my 95 Mercury Mystique with a V6 2.5L ATX and picked up a cheap 95 Ford Contour 4cyl MTX to replace it. I decided I wanted to put the V6 into the Ford Contour, the only place I am hung up right now is the wire harness not mating up to the transmission I just bought for the car. I need to know how to alter the wire harness so that I can connect it to my new V6 MTX that I bought, I am sure this is possible, I just can't find the information from my manuals I have here. Can anyone help?

The MTX and ATX have different harnesses. The Pinout at the PCM is different even.

Get out your copy of the Service Manuals to shoot the wires. You surely have one right???

I have an electronic version of the ford factory service manual. I looked through it, but I don't fully understand the wiring diagram. I was hoping someone knew from experience what color wires I needed to connect to the MTX.

My version of the factory service manual does not show a pin out of the C198 connector that goes to the MTX, does someone have that?

The PCM in the 95 MTX does not have the programming to interface (shift) the ATX. You will need the PCM and harness from your V6 ATX car to make it work. In other words, the firmware on your 95 4cyl MTX PCM does not have the ATX shift commands. It just wont work.

mercman, I am mating the V6 up with a MTX, so if I use the PCM from the car which originally had a V6 with a ATX, will it have the firmware to work with the MTX?

You would be best to have a harness and computer from a V6 MTX. You can use an ATX computer and harness, but there will be issues.

So you are taking the V6 out of the wrecked 95 Myst auto and dropping it into the 95 tour manual. Well you need the PCM and harness that goes with the V6 and that would include wiring and programming for the ATX. It will work but like LI-SVT said, you will have issues, like codes for open ATX circuits. The other thing is you will need a V6 manual flywheel. You will also need to check with some MTX owners to see if the input shafts and bell housings are the same. I dont know if the 4 and 6 share the same bolt pattern or input shaft dimensions.

This is not something I would consider doing even for fun on a contour.

You would not consider swapping a V6 engine from a car with an ATX into a car with a I4 MTX? Just the thought of it excites me.
I have everything set on the subframe ready to go into the car. I got a V6 manual transmission since the bellhousings are different, a different engine plate, different flywheel, different motor mounts, and I finally figured out the wiring harness so it now connects to the manual transmission. The only thing left is to figure out where some of the vacuum lines, that I didn't label, connect to. I have a question posted about that, but I still don't have an answer.

What kind of error codes should I expect to get since some of the ATX connectors are not needed? Does that mean my check engine light will always be on? Will it actually cause any problems with the car or will it just be a nuisance? Thanks for your help.
