I've read the how-to and the forums, and even more confused. I want to do this right the first time, so please help!!! First should I do this to BOTH the vacuum lines behind the MAF? Is Chevron injector cleaner good to use, or is there something better? Should I use half the bottle on one then the other half on the other vacuum line? Also do I need to rev the engine past 4000 rpm? There seemd to be 2 sides to that story. I have tried in the past to remove the vacuum lines that plug into the manifold, I assume these are the lines I need to unplug, and never did get them off. I was afraid of breaking them. Can I go to the other end of the vacuum line to feed the cleaner? Thanks, Thom

You have to use your fingernail or similar to press down on the small ring that the elbow fits into, while pulling out on the elbow/hose.

1- Use a 10mm open end wrench.
2- Place the open end against the vacuum line you want to remove.
3- Slide wrench down till you make contact with the "fitting" in the UIM.
4- Push down with the wrench on the fitting, as you pull up on the line to remove it.

Other people will say to just use a flat bladed screwdriver to release it, but the wrench makes more contact with the fitting.

Pull the manifolds and clean them properly.

Don't be LAZY!

Even if you do the dousing with B12 Chemtool you will want to change the oil afterwards.

Enough cleaner can get past the rings to dilute the oil enough that I wouldn't even think about driving on it afterwards.

Also cleaning that way is surface oil cleaning at best. It WILL NOT remove any build up and that's where the main problem issues arise from.

Couple of points on this tblazer:

1) You DO NOT have to pull the manifolds to clean them. Only if you have a full weekend to do it. Make sure you follow these instructions carefully.
2) Yes, you do BOTH vacuum lines behind the MAF, but one at a time.
3) Use Barrymans B-12 (16 oz. liquid bottle - you can get anywhere for ~$3).
4) Yes, use half the bottle on one then the other half on the other vacuum line.
5) I do not believe you need to rev past 4000rpm (I would check with Big Jim), but you may need to turn the throttle a little while you are unscrewing the vice grips so that the engine will not stall.
6) To remove the vacuum lines, the 10mm wrench is a good idea, although a really thin flat head will work too (I use a thin metal ruler). Don't use the other end of the vacuum line.
7) Change the oil after you do this as gunk will get into your oil system, and check your plugs while you are at it.

Last but not least, you should consider this link to other important maintenance items while you are at it.

I strongly disagree with prejudice!

You will not clean more then the oily surface residue using your method.

The caked on garbage will still be there.

I do think that once you do really clean both the manifolds the vacuum port method is a good maintenance cleaning for every oil change but THAT's it.

Also the full job doesn't take more then a few hours. It's an afternoon or evening job. If it takes a weekend something is wrong...

I strongly agree w/ DemonSVT. You have to see the amount of crap to believe it. And it's baked on hard.
