No. Not radar.

So I should point my sensor away from everything? Throw it down in the floor board?

actually, putting it in the glovebox is optimal.

Yeah, better detectors have better range, but also false less.

I recently jumped on that Passport x50 group buy and damn, it's 1000X's better than my Bel. I put my Bel in my other car, but I don't use it since it falses so much more. I've been spoiled by the x50.

It's like pointing your cell phone towards the tower to get better reception. If you want to be an idiot and put it on the floor, go ahead. That will obstruct the signal though.

In the case of the cell phone the antenna needs to be parallel to the direction toward the source.

The best place to mount the detector is as high as possible where it won't be obstructed by other objects. Behind the windshield wipers is a bad idea, but near the top of the windhield and ahead of the rear view mirror is a good spot. You need to consider how much you want to detect reflected signals coming from the side or rear you want to capture.

Mounting on top of a 6 foot mast (right next to the radar seeking missle ) would probably improve detection range, but would also attract a lot of unwanted attention...

What??

My cell phone works just as well when I'm standing on my head as when I'm standing on my feet.

Huh? I can flip my cell phone over when it has a bad signsl and cause it to completely lose the signal.
