I had an issue with the Axle popping out of socket with the engine running. I forgot I had the conrol arm off. The inner CV boot twisted off the back part of the axle. The boot and the rubber grommet are fine I just need to know how to get the Clamp back on after putting it all back together. It looks like there needs to be sa special pair of pliars or something similar. Any Ideas. It's not an immediate needs I'm still in the middle of my project.

yes you need special pliers, they are like $10 or so from an auto parts store

The inner boot is usually retained with an "earless" type clamp. This is a low profile clamp. The ones you see on the outer boot are the standard type and will not work on the inner because of clearance issues with the transaxle case.
Get the earless type pliers or rent them, you will need them.
What do you mean by grommet? Also if the joint poped out make sure you get a new axle retainer clip.

Yep, I second the clearance issue. I tried using a regular screw-type clamp one time, and the head of the screw was hitting the transaxle with every revolution. Talk about tight clearances......

The grommet is a rubber piece that goes over the metal container for the inner end. It fits inside the boot and creates the circle from the tripod shaped metal end. Axle retainer clip? I haven't seen this. To me it looks like the CV Joint is held together by opposing force from the A arm and strut as well as the Rubber boot. Almost like a spring action once clamped on. Is this not correct? Did I loose a peice? The CV joint has been out for a while but I did thoroughly clean it and regrease both the Tripod holder and the axle end. I used Ford HiTemp Axle grease. It is blue in color. Came with an outer CV repair kit I had bought for this.

Also I haven't clamped it yet but was able to reassemble the wheel by bolting the strut assembly into the hub then mounting it. After this I reinserted the CV boot to the inner piece. After those two were in I put on the A arm. Just FYI if anyone else has this problem.

I think he's talking about the "circlip" at the end of the splined shaft holding the axle inside the diff.
