The Crystal 5x7s from www.mmxpress.com are supposed to be excellent speakers with external crossovers. Unfortunately, they're now $175 for two pairs (used to be $145).

You can buy 2 pairs from www.carmedia1.com for $138. They're out of stock right now, but expect to get more in in about 9 days.

I would much rather put in the time/energy and learn how to do everything myself so I understand it to troubleshoot in the future.

By all means, get an amp wiring kit from KnuKonceptz who frequents these forums. He has excellent prooducts at very good prices.

If you are going to consider the CVs, I would contact MMXPRESS.com about the crystal to see what 1 pair costs. It might be similar to the CVs price and I would suspect that the improved crossover on the Crystals would make it a better choice than the CVs. I've got nothing against the CVs BTW, but Neil (T-RedSVT) can vouch for their sound. He said they are similar to his 250.00 dollar per pair Eclipse speakers they replaced.

Here is another alternative. Get a 2 channel amp for the sub. Sony Amp It's not pretty but I have heard nothing but good reviews... Add a 4 channel amp down the road. Use the built in amp from the HU temporarily and get the crystals for all 4 doors.

It'll probably cost about the same as the audiobahns with a 4-channel amp, and who knows, you may be perfectly content with the output of your HU's amp.

This six channel amp is only $200.

This way, you can power four speakers and one sub with one amp.

When you see a picture on the net that you would like to post. Right click on it and look at the properties. Copy the URL. When you want to post the pic click on the image button and paste the URL. And Voila! You have a pic!

Cthomp21, thanks for the great, informative email with great pictures. However, I would suggest the Cerwin Vega HED-1683. I got them for $80 from a website in California, $6 to ship, they drop right in and sound excellent. For Best Buy's price ($119), no. For $80, fine.

I guess I'm kind of partial to round speakers with a conventional dustcap instead of a pole protruding from the cone.

I love to post pictures too. laugh laugh

Sounds like you got a decent price on the Vega's. I think Vega's they're usually the best sounding car stereo speakers that BB carries to my ears (unless they've brought in Polk's or something else lately).

By all means, pick up the amp install kit from Knu. Great kit at a killer price.

Use the "Instant UBB Code" on the reply page. Just get to the URL where it displays only the pic and past the address into the pop-up.
