I went to a junk yard and found a SVT , they were about to crush this car and i couldnt let them , so i bought the engine "39k miles" for $250.00 , currently i have a 2.5 SE aso what do you recommend i do ? swap the upper / lower intake ? maybe take the heads and get em ported and polished and pop em on the SE engine ?

Let me know if it sounds like the right thing to do ..

Thanks ..

I would have bought more then the engine. Seats, Instrument Cluster, any salvageable body peices, transmission. Anyway depending on the year car you have and the engine you aquired you might be able to just drop it in. If your car is a MTX you might be able to use he SVT PCM and have an SVT. It depends alot on what you have and what you got.

It kind of sucks to be wanting to install the engine without knowing if it even runs huh? Please tell me you started it up before you bought it....

I bought it mainly for the heads and UIM/LIM , my SE is MTX and runs fine as it is , the car was gutted by the mexicans before i got to it so the only thing left it the transmission and engine.

I might see if i can get the PCM so i can run the 19lb injectors i guess .

What year SVT engine?

The things that make the SVT engine different fron the non SVT engine are intake manifolds, throttle body, cams, head porting, slightly higher compression from different pistons, bigger injectors, and different PCM controls.

98's only had the secondary intake ports ported via extrude hone process while the 99 and newer had both primary and secondary ports ported.

If you don't use the cams, you won't be getting a lot of the improvement that the additional airflow from the better intake stuff will provide.

The slight compression increase is not enough to worry about.

If you use the 19 lb injectors from the SVT you will need to do something to compensate for the larger flow. If you don't, you may be running a bit lean under heavy load. Some have used the SVT intake stuff with the non SVT injectors with no real problems.

Additional head proting can be very beneficial as long as you have someone do it that knows what he is doing.

With the increases in intake flow, don't forget to open up the exhaust too.

Depending on what year the two engines are, you may have trouble using the SVT cams. I don't remember when the change was made, but later 2.5 Duratec engines (both SVT and non SVT) used narrower timing chains with narrower cam sprockets. You must make sure that they are compatable.

The SVT trans and the non SVT MTX is the same although the SVT has a better clutch and a lighter flywheel.

You should be able to learn a lot more about your porject by searching around these forums.

Good luck, it all sounds like fun.

Thanks for the reply , Im thinking it was a 98 and my tour is a 99 , I will take some time and look into other things , as far as the trans im not worried about that , i will just get a Fidanza soon .

What kind of work is it to pull off a head ?

More work then pulling the engine. With alot more possibility of something breaking. If your not used to timing an engine then I would leave it to an engine shop. Also if you've timed a V8 with a single cam then the Duratec would be a challenge.

Wonder if i should jsut use the SVT block then ? Its got 39k on it ......

Can a compression test be done without the engine running ?
