What usually happens to a contour when the water pump goes out and it overheats. Do the head gaskets go out? I ordered a pump replacement and installed it, but my problem is with the housing. The housing has a small hole in it which is causing the leaking. I have a water guage in my piller and it was up to 250 degrees. It got so hot that my car would not start for about an hour and it was making a wierd clicking noise when I gave my car gas. I started my car today and took it up the street and back and it was riding fine. Any help would be appreciated.

Did the impeler break?
Sounds like there are pieces of it stuck in the system, you need to find them all and do a thorough flush.

No, the impeller was fine. It did'nt even need replacing, but I did it anyway. My system does need a good flushing though. do you think that JB weld will hold up to the water pressure on the housing? I had a buddy down the street spot weld, but there is still leakage. I just removed the whole pump off and there is a very small hole that we didnt even touch with the weld, hahahaha. It seems as if the only place I can find a new housing is through ford amd I'm sure that it would cost a pretty penny so I would like to avoid that route. I have a 1999 SVT contour which is nice when it's running, but I am sick of throwing money into the POS.

silver - you're in luck.

i just replaced my working waterpump (was 80k so i just replaced it for precautionary reasons) and since i bought it at the dealer, it came with entire housing/pipes/waterpump assembly.

so that means i have my old waterpump assembly (water pump still working, impeller fine as far as i could tell.. just don't know how many more miles / years it'll last) and that includes housing.

i held onto it thinking i might need it one day, or someone else might.

if you want the housing, i can ship to you free if you pay for the shipping. i don't need it..
i'm in michigan.

how'd you get the hole anyway? that's wierd... it's not the weep hole right? i havne't really checked mine in detail, i'll check later tonihgt.. but i don't know how you'd get a hole in housing..

i replace the water pump in my 96 contour V-6... the new complete pump from the ford dealer was about $120.... it works great now.. to get the whole thing out i had to remove the battery, the battery tray... the new pump came with both hoses attached so you dont need new hoses.....
i would not waste time trying to weld the body of your old pump.. probably made out of pot metal and will not hold for long....what ever made the hole will problaby keep the leak coming later when you riding down the street????

I used the good ol' fashion GB Weld and the leaking has stopped. My cars water/antifreeze is staying at about 210 degrees at an idle after 10 min. I will have to take it out for a test drive in the morning, but my guess would be that it will continue to overheat. I have no clue what the problem is. The pump gear is rotating and with the new impellar I cant understand what the problem is. My heater is not working if that tells anything? I'm just being cheap and trying to stay away from the ford dealer which I'm sure you can't blame me, but it looks the might be the only route.
