Stupid question maybe, but I will ask it anyway. What size bolts do I need for my rear license plate holes? They look a bit stretched out from the previous owner. I went to several parts stores and have tried many sizes. Everything else I have found in the FAQ and by searchinmg th forums. Thank you.

pre 98 had a hidden nut molded into plastic frame. those nuts normally seize to the bolts and then break loose in the frame. that's most likely what you have. I drilled a hole and mounted the plate w/ stainless steel bolts and nuts. w/ washers and all it was water tight. worked w/ no drama for four years and two license plates

If they have not been modified they are metric. I don't know the size but had no trouble matching them up when I replaced them a few years ago.

Put a little bit of anti-sieze on them and you will not likely have the dreaded siezed bolts when you need to remove them sometime in the future.
