98 SVT 93K miles I make an attempt to accelerate and the revs shoot up, but the car doesn't accelerate at near the same rate as the RPMs. Also when I shut the car off and get out there is a noticable burning smell from it. I did a search through the forum archives and found this: 1st Gear and only 20 MPHSome of the replies sound like what I'm dealing with. Confirm my thinking: I need a new clutch, right? thanks, seth

sounds like it. especailly with the burning.
when my bosses clutch went on his 1991 Escort (192,000miles) he turned a corner and rpms shot up to redline and the car just wouldnt move. dont wait to replace it...the longer you wait, the more parts you my have to replace.

yup clutch... Sorry buddy, But 100K is about right for a slightly abused clutch... I have been trying to take better care of mine.

heh, we just got to the flywheel in J.J.'s escort...how the [censored] do you score a flywheel??? it looks like a brake rotor that has been metal on metal for about 500 miles 
now, on second thought, after reading the other post you linked...is it possible for a synchro to slip???
