Thanks for all your thoughts everyone. I'm still determining the route I will go but the #1 choice will start out with a new 3.0 shotblock which I will tear down and have balanced ($200), replace the bearings, and install the latest oil pan. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe just the oil pan (even on my existing engine) would resolve any possible oiling issue with regard to lower end bearings (since isn't it just an additional oil supply to the top end if I use '01 up heads?) Based on that assumption, I would consider using my existing 2.5 heads in the event I could have them cc'ed enough to drop the CR to close to, or below, 10:1- Posssible? Guess I'll post that question in it's own thread. Along with another one on clutches.

You are very wrong!

3L heads have extra drain backs. A full oval port 3L has a total of 3 extra drain backs.

Ah, so there is a return issue also? I suppose that would be backed up by the 'long hard right turns' comment as long as the return galley is at #3 or #6 cylinder end of the block? (force during right would throw the oil to that end, away from the 2 returns) BTW, brings me to asking is it only one bank that only has two returns? (sorry, easier to ask that than look up the pictures!).

Well, my clutch decision is fairly well answered, going ''01 + 3.0 oval port heads is very near my decision, NOW any comments as to any possible difference/ changes in heads after +01? Think I can call Sacramento Cylinder Head once I have that answer and finally finish my spreadsheet, and make the final decision on the route I will go.

BTW, hasn't AZ Dyno updated their website with a valid email address? Sent them an email at info@streetflight and it came back undeliverable.

Hey,
Just let you know, I just finished a 3.0L upgrade in my 98 SVT (this weekend) using the 2.5L heads. I used the 2004 3.0L short block from Ford. I plan on posting the complete run down of parts used and things I had to do to the block to get it to work. I had to do a fair amount of modification, but nothing a average DIY guy couldn't handle.

Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

I haven't broken it in yet, but it sounds great, much deeper and very very smooth. I put a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing assembly in that I got on ebay for a very good price and it feels great too.

Oh yeah,
The whole thing came in around $1800, including the clutch, updated oil pan and all the fluids, gaskets etc.

I also noticed that with the updated oil pan, Ford sent an updated dipstick tube and dipstick to go with it. This changed the amount of oil I needed to fill the car to 6 1/2 quarts. I only remember having to use about 5 1/2 quarts before to fill it. This is assuming an empty oil filter.

Well, close this thread too as I'm going full 3.0.
