It is time to buy new tires for my 1999 Mystique GS with the 14" LS rims. Does anyone have a recommendation for a new set of replacement tires for the 14" rims? I am looking for a brand that combines low road noise with good handling and a life span of at least 30K to 40K miles. Any advise?

Thanks,

Jeff

Sorry for posting this in the wrong section. Thanks for moving it to here. Also, I believe the rims are 16", not 14". Any recommendations / advise would be welcome.

Thanks and keep on Contouring!

The only contiques that came with 16" are the SVT's

I do not know what the different versions of the mystique came with but it would be either a 14" or a 15" not a 16" if they are stock wheels from any mystique. You might want to go and check your size before you order anything.

I have been happy with the Dunlop SP sport A2's but they are a little loud as they wear down and other people hate them.

If the wheels are 15"s or bigger, I recommend continetal extremecontacts. Good, long lasting performance all-season.

If they are original wheels they must be 15".
Anyway, the last set of tires I had was Sumitomo HTR200s, the set was about $160 shipped from tirerack.
These are summer only, but down south you don't really need all-season.

For me, that was the perfect price/handling/comfort balance, they lasted for cca 30-35K. I wish I still had them.

Right now I have Yokohama Avid Touring tires, the Sumitomos were far superior in handling, and about the same quiet. I bought the Yokohamas because they supposed to last twice as long, they are good tires, I can't say a word, but I miss the extra bit of confidence I had with the Sumitomos when driving "spirited".

I went from a dedicated summer tire, the Firestone SZ 50 EP's to an h-rated all season, the BFGoodrich Traction T/A's. The handling, well not as precise feeling as the SZ 50 EP's, is nice and predictable. The wet traction is nearly as good as the Firestones, the ride is quieter and not as harsh, and the breaking seems to be sharper. I would get these tires again. Luke at Tire Rack recommended these to me during our conversation. They were $83 for the 205/55/16's. They come with a 60 K mile warranty. There is also some good track test info on these tires at the Tire Rack. www.tirerack.com

Luke is a good person to talk to, he knows his stuff.

Update on the BFGoodrich Traction T/A's. Yesterday I drove in a heavy downpour with standing water on the road at near highway to highway speeds and these tires hydropane resistance was right up there with the SZ 50 EP's they replaced which were excellent in that area. It was my visibility or the cars in front of me keeping my speed down, these tires took all mother nature could dish out. I am very happy with these tires.

I second that...

Just put a set on my car...outstanding tire. Grip is so good, I broke the sway bar mount on the passenger rear corner!

All better now...custom metal fab fixed 'em for good!

Wish I had roads around here that I could break mounts on.

Thanks to everyone who replied. The stock rims are 15" and I was mistaken in calling them 16". I will definately look at some of the other off brands instead of going back to Firestone or Goodyear. Thanks again and keep on Contouring!
