My car is in the shop and the mechanic is recommending a Delco 417 that sells for $80. He says I need a battery with around 800 amps. Are there cheaper ones that will work?
Thanks

negative you need one with 540 to 650 CCA, according to the haynes manual i am looking at, so tell him not to get you that one unless you want it because you can always go with something a little less powerful

The Motorcraft replacement is a 650 CCA battery FWIW.

Depends on the accessories you have in your car... if you have a huge stereo, you will need more amperage. with 1000 watt stereo, I had to have a 1050 CA batt in my Celica.

Though it can be nice to have a bigger better battery. My diehard is still good after numerous times of letting it completely drain. Was able to start it once after leaving the headlights on for like 2 to 3 hours.

I just bought one from O'Reiley's for $59. It has 815 cranking Amps (660 CCA).It is a little bit wider that stock, but fits fine.
