I was just wondering if this was the case?
I have a 2000 CSVT and a mechanic was telling me the car could potentially go through a quart every 800 to 1000 mi?

I go 7000 miles or so between Mobil 1 changes and the level doesn't drop on the dipstick a single mm.

Well here was my situation.

I took my car in for the 60,000 mi tune up and told the guys at the Ford Dealership to put 6 quarts of synthetic in the car... checked the oil level not too long after that and it appeared to be where it needed to be. Well last week I spun a bearing and took it in to the shop. The guys there said there was 3 quarts in the pan and that these cars were notorious for burning oil. This was just under 3,000 mi after that 60,000 mi tune up.

Thats why I ask

could be any number of reasons why the oil level was so low, but burning is not on the list of common problems I don't appreciate when people say something like they "know" when it's merely a guess on their part. personally, after a statement like this I would not trust 3qt figure either...

Burning oil, not exactly.

Ingesting oil, yes.

The 2.5L is susceptible to ingesting oil through the intake because of the lack of sufficient head drains.
Also when said head drains are not free flowing the PCV valve can open at times it is not suppose to.

High rpm exponentially increases this problem.


Morale of the story. Run a PCV separator and religiously watch your oil level.

I've never had to add a drop of oil to mine inbetween oil changes. My car has just over 31,000 miles.
