Can someone tell me what speakers will fit in the doors? I was lookin for Blaupunkts, but I've been told that Pioneers will only fit.

just about anything smaller than an 8" speaker will fit with some modifications.

There is no truth that only pioneers will fit. If you want a drop in solution, get a pair of 5x7s or 6x8s. 5.25 and 6.5" will also fit with an adapter. 6x9s will fit with very few mods.

Almost anything will work if you have the time.

Agreed.
Most any speaker can be made to fit, it all depends on how much $$$, time & ability you have to invest in modifications to your door panels.

As Dave stated, the factory OEM size is 6" x 8" so any of the readily available 5" x 7" or 6" x 8" speakers should drop right in, depending on mounting depth.
According to the Crutchfield fitment chart, the mounting depth for the front speakers is 2-3/4" & rear is 2-1/2"

There are several models & manufacturers to choose from in addition to Pioneer, so just shop around & choose those that most appeal to you & your musical tastes.

The original replacement speakers are 6X8. You can get very good ones on ebay.com. Try pyramids, they are inexpensive and very efficient...

see ya

If you are buying through a auction website I would recommend Ubid.com. They seem to have fairly high quality stuff for fair prices. You can get such brands as MB Quart, Sony, Kicker, Rockford Fosgate, etc.... on there.

Normally, I'd be the first one to recommend budget speakers, but I have yet to hear a pyramid product that would convince me to recommend them. They may be effecient but it is a product of the lack of bass extension they exhibit.

Thx guys for your help, I will do some shopping around. The people at Crutchfield told me that Pioneer was the only brand I can use. But taking advice for people who've done this mod, I'll take your advice. laugh

I would try out the Crystal Coax's at MMXpress . $145 buys you two pair of 5x7 coax's with outboard X-overs. I hear that Crystal's speakers are extremely high quality. Not bad IMHO for 4 great speakers.

It's a bit hard to believe Crutchfield would claim the only speaker that will fit in a Contour's door is made by Pioneer, particularly considering how many various 5x7/6x8 speakers they offer from other manufacturers.

Either the sales associate misstated the facts or perhaps you misunderstood.

My experience with Crutchfield is they are very knowledgable & professional, thus not prone to the typical sales techniques associated with chain electronics stores, such as pushing a particular brand/model because the "spiff" is higher for example.

Just seems out of character to me.
