My guess is a clutch noise, I've heard possible loose Cat. heat shield. Just wanted to see if any of you'all out there have had/fixed this problem. Again a metal, rattle noise, when leaving a stop in first gear, low RPM. Any help would be greatful. JC

Mine was more like a growling rattle that sounded like tranny in the gears or something, but when I replaced the clutch it went away. I think it was the spring dampeners in the clutch disc geting loose making the sounds from the tranny really come out. It would do the sound at low rpms when almost lugging a bit when taking off. At first I had tried the Synthetic mix in the trans but that didn't help. But after the clutch it was nice and quiet. The clutch wasn't slipping or anything, I just changed it because of that noise, and for preventive maintenance. I did it at around 130k I guess?

Somthing I found out about the CAT. 8 years or 80,000 miles, is the emmisons warenty. My 98 SVT, has 71K so I fell into the warenty. If not a OEM Cat, from Ford is around 625.00.....ouch!!! Or just go to the SHO Shop, and get it for 99.00, and have a muffler shop weld it in for you. S#!T I could buy a whole new exhaust for 625.00.
