i juts recieved a notice in the mail today that leads me to believe that the insurance co. of the cause of my accident (the 16 year old kid who cut me off) will pay for the damages to my vehicle.

if this is the case, they will total it, give me ~$2,000 USD, and let me buy it back. at which point i will proceed to fix it with the $$ i have left form the payout.

only problem is, if this happens, it will have a salvaged title.

what i want to know is, will this pay off in the end??? the power steerring pump was gone anyway so i took it for a drive tonite, it drives GREAT. thats the only word to describe it. i didnt drive it long (major coolant leaks) but i drove it long enough to know nothing is crooked.

so i can have it driveable for $500, use the other $1,000 to fix the car after i pay $500 to buy it back.

opinions?? suggestions???

i dont intend to EVER sell the car, FWIW.

the problem you're going to have is gettin insurance on it again once it is fixed. most insurance companies don't want to cover a vehicle with a salvaged title. i know a guy who had a hell of a time gettin his custom motorcycle insured because it had a salvage title. he finally found coverage but not full coverage.

All my cars are salvage titles(except Impala) and i have Allstate full coverage ,thing is they only pay 80% of value if totaled, pretty much kills resale value too..(but its a contique so were already used to that)check local rebuilding guidelines, because some states are pretty strict and it might cost too much to repair/replace all the stuff they require.

When I wrecked my Honda CBR they let me keep it, then give me a smaller check, not listed as a salvage either. They will not consider it a salvage title unless you buy a car from the insurance company. Try to see if they will let you keep the car, not buy it back, so you can keep a clean title.

I had a salvage title on my 95 for nearly 50,000 miles. I didn't have any problems staying with the same insurance company after it was repaired and certified by the DMV as being repaired.

I don't think you'll have to worry about anything, especially a car that isn't worth much. You could potentially have a problem with resale, but that's assuming you're not going to run it into the ground.

My brother is on his second salvage, the pickup I'm driving right now is a salvage...my tour is a salvage, but not on the road yet. No problems at all, no car payments either (gotta love rebuilds). You have a '95, I somehow doubt that the title situation would affect the value much...if you're keeping it, it's not an issue anyway. Don't sweat it

even if i get another car, ill keep it. i dont want to sell it, i cant get enough back to break even. its paid for, but i woudl want to get another car with what i get for it, and 1,000 dollars (the value in the condition its in after the wreck) is not enough to even put a down payment on anything close to the tour.

i called collision masters yesterday and they guy came out to look at it.

he took one look and said:

(in refernece to what i asked him over the phone...) "Can i straighten that??? Piece of cake. itll take 2 hours. price ~350 to pull the piece behind the bumper back tp spec and the core support for the radiator back to spec.

if i get a junkyard dash, they will install it for 200 dollars. thje windshiled will run 185 installed and i cna get a hood for 35 bukcs (salvage).

the radiator, headlights, power steering lines etc will be done by me.

the airbags i will let collision masters do.

then i will take it back to them for paint matching.
so no salvagew title for me, the ins. co said they only wanted my side fo the story and that the form they sent in the mail was just a standard informative letter...damned misleading b*******.

I have 2 salvage title cars i fixed myself. 93 Honda del sol with 57K now has 180K. And my 98 CSVT which was a theft recovery car from CT. I've never had any problems here in WI with rebuilding cars. yeah sometimes you don't get the resale but not always is that true. I know of a few tours, intergra type R's that have been rebuilt and sold at or above fair market value.
