This is a new post on a continuing problem:

Here is the million dollar question...On the bottom rear engine mount; if the center piece of rubber looks like it turned with in the mount, could that cause a vibration? In other words; is the rubber part of the mount free to spin?
thanks
Nick

Mine look like the one on the left. However I havn't seen my "shifted" mount with my own eyes. This is just what my mechanic told me. I think im going to replace the mount before i tear into the clutch.

Does anyone have experience with these mounts shifting?

I just got a new one from Ford for 49 bucks. When it gets Here in a day i will let you know if it fixes the vibration.

I just did this last night. I wasn't really noticing a vibration but I did it because one side of the rubber was being abnormally compressed.

To answer your question about the rubber turning, the rubber is uniform all the way around. If it turned it wouldn't matter, but the fact that your mechanic says it looks like it turned would mean that it's damaged/squished on one side. If it was uniformly smooth and healthy rubber he wouldn't know if it had turned or not.

Took a half hour, mostly struggling to get the new one in between those prongs.

well I got it in there but that didn't fix the problem, but my have helped. The old mount had about 1/8 in rattle in all directions. a few of the holes looked oval.

The good news: my new mount weights soooo much less than the stock one it came with. The OEM one was black and cast, I belive. The new OEM mount is silver due to being some sort of alloy. I think it is maybe half the weight. i should of weighhed them and compared. I might change out the other 3 and save a few lbs.

My replacement definitely didn't help vibration, in fact the new firmer rubber might be causing more vibration at idle. But the drivetrain does seem to be more direct when shifting which is nice.

Also the new alloy kind.
I'm not sure the other three come in the alloy? In fact, having just done the tranny to strut-tower one on the drivers side under the intake, I can tell you that one is definitely not light alloy.
