My dad told me that intake will only hurt the engine, cuz the engine sucks too much air in, and he said if the exhaust is loud that the car looses HP, he thinks the quiter the better....  Is any of that true???

Not Really. I installed a aftermarket intake on my 96 Tour and it did not hurt the gas mileage or motor at all. You want the motor to suck in more air. But if you do add a intake I suggest adding a exhaust system as soon as possible. They both work together, if the motor is sucking in more air then the exhaust needs to blow more air out.

Yes, aftermarket intakes and exhausts are really bad. Drag cars are so slow because of how loud they are.

More Air (and fuel) = More HP. Engines are air pumps...
Loud is bad? Hmm, he's tired of the ricer fart cans running around (can't say I blame him), but just because a car is loud doesn't mean its fast, nor does it mean its slow. On our cars, Catbacks are mainly for sound, you MIGHT gain 5whp with one, is it worth the $600 +/- for the 5hp? Its not IMO.

I guess turbo's and superchargers are bad too since they push in more air.  Dont really see your dad's reasoning behind that. the faster you can get the air in and out, the better.

Well agree with him, then get 4 12 inch subs and install them in the car, then shake the whole house... I'm sure he'll be ok with that... LOL...
