I suppose it would depend on if the driver of the vw is any good or not, and possibly the location that this race takes place(track or whatever). Plus he most likely has the power to weight ratio advantage too.

I don't know about the '04 VR6, but in '00, I was selling VWs. the VR6 then was 174 h.p., I don't remember the torque (nothing to write home about). So, '00 SVT > '00 Jetta VR6. I'm sure VW has stepped up the h.p. since then, though...
Edit: Just stopped by vw.com:
'04 Jetta GLI 2.8 VR6-
200 h.p. @ 6200 / 195 lb-ft. @ 3200
3,179 lbs.
0-60: 7.9
top speed: 130 m.p.h.
I, for one, am not impressed. The 1.8t was actually listed as .2 quicker to 60, same top speed.

I drive a 00 and 03 vr6 and I think my 00 SVT would take it.

Post seems semi dead now... but thought I would chime in. From stop, my VR6 (auto, mind you), would spank an 00 SVT, but as soon as the secondaries in the SVT open up, you'd be gone. Stupid wienerschnitzel mobile.

IMO the SVT driver would have to be top-notch in order to make it an even race.

Whoops, I just noticed this was about an SE vs. a VR6... in that case I'd put money on the VR6.
