Interestingly enough I was contacted by Bose earlier this year about an engineering position they had open in Southwest Arizona, on the border with California & Mexico.
During the course of this interview, the Bose HR rep stated that the actual production of their "transducers" (as she continually referred to them) was done in a maquilladora (sp?) facility in Mexico & part of my responsibilities was to learn to speak Spanish so as to better coordinate this facility with the one in Arizona.
Perhaps that explains the low costs you mentioned.

That's probably part of it, but I suspect that they were that cheap before transplanting them to Mexico. They probably now cost 1.25. They are mostly cheap due to using some of the cheapest materials possible, not that there is anything wrong with that if the product doesn't suffer.

OK, OK, I'll admit....I own a Bose system. I have the 301 IV (I think), the center channel and two surrounds. But let me explain. I got the 301s at Best Buy; they had them marked for $150 a pair when it should have said $150 a piece, only sold in pairs. They are not THAT bad for $150 bucks brand new. Same with the suurounds but at Circuit City; got em for $35 should have been $70. The center was a gift. The center and the surrounds suck. Went to local high end dealer and heard DynAudio speakers........Jaw Hit Floor! The 301s might make decent surrounds during future upgrades! -Joe

I guess I'm thinking the same as Dave.
Go for the Infinity's, unless you'd rather upgrade to some components.
Ditch the idea of 6x9s in the rear deck. Way too much of a hassle for marginal sound at best, especially considering what you listen to.
Toss a single 10" or 12" sub in the trunk and power it with the RF amp.
You'll be a happy camper with some nice tunes.

I'll fess up too. I've got a pair of Bose Inter-Audio 4000s (10" ported w/3" cone tweeter). For $200 and 10yrs later, they're still the best sounding Bose speakers I've ever heard. Well, for whatever that's worth. I've got some Bose surrounds too, but they were cheap (and aren't even hooked up right now).

My college roommate works for Bose. He gets me deals on their products and I've used and heard most of them. They are not the worst thing in the world, but as Dave said, just over-priced.
I've had 301 Series IV, 701 Series 1, VCS-10 for my first home theater system. Very impressive to the untrained guests, not so to me.

ALL RIGHT ALREADY!! None of this Bose Bashing is getting me anywhere!! If you carefully look to the upper right corner you will notice the title of this post. Hmmmmm, not a Bose bashing post now is it? J/K! Anyhow, more ideas are needed here. It seems that the majority of you would drop the rear 6x9 setup for a single 10" sub. Well one of the problems that I have with that is that I use my trunk every weekend when I put my BOSE SPEAKERS and other junk on my way to another DJ gig. So that box is out of question. Anyway, lets get back to the advice giving...

Anyway, lets get back to the advice giving...You can mount up to three 8" subs to the bottom of the rear deck. I'm using 1 with good results. Aaron is also using a similar setup, and he's quite pleased with it. Try a search. There's a few dozen threads on the subject with all of the info you'll need. There's even one active right now. It's pretty simple. There's even a hole already in the rear deck. It just takes a little MDF, some insulation to quell rear deck rattle, a jigsaw, and a couple hours.

Milan,
Go with what you want. Some poeple have installed 6x9's in there rear deck and are quite happy with them. We don't mean to discourage you.
What was the intent of putting them there, more bass or do you like the treble and midrange coming from there? If you're looking for more bass, you might be interested in my solution or something similar.
