I have a '00 Mystique. Anybody have this kind of trouble? You can be driving down the road and the car just stalls. Is it the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors or ??? It will start back up and be on it's merry way again.
At high idle/revs it has a regular like miss to it. If that is any help.
Thanks in advance for anybody's assistance.

I believe someone stated before this means the trans is in the very early stages of transmission failure.

How can you make that assumtion when no where in his sig, or is there a link, to tell us waht kind of transmission or motor he has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!




Don;t spout stuff out the mouth if its plain obvious that you have no clue what his car has!!!!!!!!!!!


Think for a minute and realize that this guy may have another less expensive problem...Use your Brain man.



Visions, tell us what motor, transmission and if there are any CEL's or O/D lights flashing....And we can go form there....also are there any other symptoms?????? If i ahd to guess form your statment above....the MAIN thing that comes to mind is Fuel pump....but its only a guess with the info you have given us.

It's a 4 cyl and automatic. No cel or other lights on or flashing. The car runs great and out of the blue it just dies. I have never had a car do this before.

Chill out, he didnt for some reason say what type of tranny he had. He said while crusing down the road, I figured if it had an manual, he would have said in 3rd it just dies, or in 2nd it just dies.

Secondly I was saying what someone else said before. It MAY, I'm not saying it is though, be in the very early stages of auto. trans failure, and look he posted he does have an automatic.

Speaking as some one with a MTX, when 3rd goes bad, the car does not die...it pops out of gear....in an MTX car there is no electronc control...its all driver when you shift...anything that happens is mechanical to the tranmission....so if a gear was going either 1# you cannot put it into that gear, 2: it pops out of that gear, 3: it gets stuck in that gear.....But the car will not die..especaily at crusing speeds unless its a Vaccum leak!!!!



Look, i apologize for snaping, but the reason i got so irrated, was because it was plain jane obvious that you did not have any of the correct info, yet you were trying to spout out advise...About waht someone else said for that matter.....Thats why i asked for more info, from the guy....because it was needed before we could properly give advise....and thats why i said think before you post!!!


Anyways, back to topic, a Fuel pump issue may not through a CEL (it might have soft codes) but the ECU my still register a code.


Also take a look at the tranny forum, there is a FAQ at the top of the forum....thats a good place to start dignosing if it is a trans problem.

From what I've heard, fuel pump failure is fairly common on the 2000 models. If the stalling happens only when you have 1/3 of a tank of gas or less, the fuel pump may be the culprit. And no, a fuel pump would not necessarily cause a CEL to come on.

The car does have about half a tank of gas. I noticed when I rev the engine and hold it there, that it sounds like its missing on a constant rhythm if that make any sense.

Would having a diagnotic test done at a dealer show what is wrong with it? I would hate to spend that kind of money and not show anything.

I'm assuming the fuel pump is in the tank and you would have to replace the whole thing. That I can do (I had to do it to my 12 yr old truck). To be the fuel pump would be ok with me.

In the summer of 98, driving at a steady 35 mph my car stalled, it started back up, no problems. Car was still in warranty at the time. The dealer re-flashed the PCM. To this day the car has never stalled again. My car is a 96 with 88,000 now.

First, it�s not the tranny. I won�t go into why, trust me.
Second, The next time it happens pay attention to exactly under what conditions and what it feels like. Typically a spark related stall is just like turning off the key, no stumbles and such. A fuel related stall is more gradual more like a loss of engine power, the engine may kick or stumble on it�s way out. Next, see if it starts right back up or it takes a few minutes. If it starts right up it could be a bad electrical connection, if it takes some time, it could be fuel starvation (clogged filter, or week pump).

One more thing, Cell phones laptops CB radios car stereos and things like that can generate RFI and cause stalling. Did you add any aftermarket electronics lately?
