I started looking at bikes, and i know i don't have much for credit so my parents are willign to help me get into one. I am gonna go take the written test next week, as I have been studying the book. Now it comes to what bike.
These are my options as I am new to street bikes and wanna stay under 700cc. I like the R6 and the SV650S and my dad likes the ZZr600 which isn't that bad either... I just started looking at the R6, and its now my first choice, the dealer doesn't have any in so I gotta wait a few days till they get them in. What do you guys think?

Whatever's cheapest or whatever looks the best to you because at this level, it won't matter.

why not a Suzuki GSX-R 600? The R6 and the GSX-R 600 are the best two bikes out there. Very good looking, quick too. Im getting ready to buy one of these two bikes.

Sounds like its going to be his first bike. It would be crazy to have a gixxer to learn on. Too many people buy bikes that they can't handle early on and end up paying the price. The SV-650 is really the only one listed that would be appropriate. Have fun, I miss my old bike daily...

My friend has a SV650 (with 30,000 miles on it! He drove it to AK last summer ) and he loves it. It provides great performance, comfortable seating position, and lots of tq. It engine brakes like a mofo. It's easy and comfortable to putt around in at low speeds and low rpms, but it's got PLENTY of gusto to keep you satisfied. Plus, it's got that great V-twin sound and blows exhaust "rings" in the winter.

The YZF-R6 is not remotely in the same category as the SV650 or the ZZR.
The R6/R1 are balls to the wall, barely street legal race bikes. Make a mistake, or be undecisive and the short wheelbase, ultra light chassis, and super peaky power curve will make you pay. The R6 is also full on sportbike, high footpegs, and a cramped position. Great for the track, crappy for daily biking.
The SV650 and the ZZR are sport tourer's. More midrange torque, not as light, and not as peaky. MOre suited for long drives and daily biking. Your wrists won't cry in pain at night either.
If you want a sportbike and you want a bit more comfort, the ZX-636, CBR F4i and the Daytona 600 are more suited to that. As well, don't rule out 250cc class bikes. They are still quick (14 sec 1/4m) but they're safer if youre uneasy about the power modern bikes put out.

SV650 is the best bet for a beginner bike. Alot cheaper too brand new. Find a used one and you'll save a ton. less stuff to damage too if you dump it. insurance will be cheaper also from what I've heard from guys that own them. It's a good bike all around.

Go with the SV650S, then move up to something like a GSXR later.
