OK, I had to get in on the action. I am looking for a sub to complete the stereo in my car. Here is what I have right now:
HU: Pioneer DEH-P730
Front Speakers: Focal 165k. Midrange in the factory location, tweeters flush mounted in the panels by the mirrors (sill panels?). Damn they sound good!!!!!
Rear Speakers: Stock. I have them turned off using the HU at this point.
Amp: Rockford Fosgate Punch 600.4. Front channels running the Focals, rear channels will be bridged to run the sub. Mounted under the passenger seat on an aluminum panel (hope to post pics soon).

I am looking for sound quality more than sheer volume of bass, so I am thinking of using a sealed box. My buddy and I put his 12" Solobaric (round, sealed box) in the trunk and it sounded pretty good, with more than enough volume for what I'm looking for.

I'm really a car audio novice so am looking for any suggestions. Would like to keep the price below $300 for the sub. Thanks!!!

I'll save you 100.00.

Lambda PL series from www.lambdacoustis.com .

I believe it be the best sounding sub at any price. It has what is considered to be one of the most advanced motor structures in the industry, plus with 14mm of xmax, it has the ability to move serious amounts of air.

The Honkeytonk Monkey bought the 15" version and was very happy with it. He said it blew away the high end clarion subs he previously owned.

Contact Nick McKinney at Lambda Acoustics directly and see if he can give you any scoop. Trust me, you won't be dissappointed. If you decide to consider the JL, then by all means get the Adire Audio Shiva or Dayton DVC. You'll save some money and end up with more output and at least equal (IMO better) sound quality.
