I will soon be assembling my 3.0L and I was curious because I am using the 2.5L heads with the 3.0L block... Will the timing marks be the same? are there any special instructions or will they line up?
Should I get a new 3.0L timing belt or a 2.5L belt? Thanks

There is no timing belt, there's timing chains. Yes, you need all 2.5L timing components. Be sure to read up on any FAQ's you can find, the NECO boards have a good one.

Timing components include:

chains
tentioners
guides
crank sprockets
of course cams.

Once you get all those components, then the timing marks line right up, and the new chains even have a color coded chain link for each spot to line up on.

Everything you need to know is in the 3 liter forum of NECO.

You have to read all 5 FAQ's at the top of there section to get all your answers...majority of the time you do not need to replace these parts unless there damaged.

I would replace the chains, for sure. It's been debated as to whether or not the guides and tensioners are "wear" items, so I'll leave that to your best judgement- but definitely get some new timing chains.

Well that too is debateable......when i did mine, there was nothing wrong with them...even took them to Apex Motorsports (as well as the heads) to be sure...showed almost no ware what so ever.

Many others have also had no needed to replace them.

Why Take the chance....I'm in the process as well and i'm rebuilding the entire valvetrain except for the cams, and the timing chains/guides/tensioners/etc...If there is a weak link in the system somewhere youll know that it has been replaced...Even though the CSVT is a noninterference motor (meaning that the timing will be retarded if anything in the aforementioned decides to take a s*$t on you in order to not harm the rest of the motor) i dont see why taking a chance would be good idea...??? Trust me, i understand the idea of working on a budget and not being able to afford everything at once...but do it right the first time...I know because ive been w/o my car for five months and its my daily driver...I'm willing to pay for the insurance that my motor is going to stay together when i beat the hell out of it...

I replaced the chains and tensioners. Make sure you read the TSB on the chains and count those links!

The V-6 engine is an interference engine. Your explanation of a non interference engine is not correct.
